Fight outside pub leads to arrests
TWO men were arrested after a punch-up outside a pub.
Police are investigating if the fight outside the Duke of York, in Southend Road, Billericay, is linked to an earlier incident at the pub, which led to a man being bottled.
Essex Police spokesman Nishan Wijeratne said: "Officers were called by a concerned member of the public following reports of a disturbance outside the Duke of York on Saturday at 11.55pm.
"Two men from Billericay, aged 33 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of assault."
The men from the Oak Lane traveller site, in Crays Hill, were released on bail until April pending further inquiries.
Five people were arrested on March 2 following an assault at the site and a bottling at the pub. They were also bailed until April.
The fighting is believed to be linked to a feud between two rival families from the site.
Mr Wijeratne added: "Investigating officers are looking closely at both incidents to see if there are related matters."

Is that what the Duke of York wants the extension for, a fighting ring?
That pub should lose its licence.
Does anyone know when the date of the findings of the review due?

Oh and who do we think is paying for the police to investigate this matter? Certainly not the so-called 'travellers' as they don't know the meaning of the word 'taxpayer'.

I wonder how many witnesses will come forward to this crime?
Let me think...

Oh come on, infighting and feuds are part of their "culture". Didn't you know that?
I am sure if you think hard enough you can come up with a whole list of things that are part of their "culture".
I've covered this before. Sure I haven't missed anything, or have I?
As for the landlord and his licence. He has been happy to allow them to drink there for years.
It is surely the landlord's prerogative as to who he allows in his pub.
And you can't argue that perhaps he's scared.
They don't go in the Shepherd and Dog in Crays Hill and that is because it was made clear that they were not welcome.
Now we can see why.
But of course, the do gooders will be here in droves shortly to tell us how fights happen in the wider community.
However, before starting the usual anti racist bigot rant - go and speak to the people who live in the vicinity of the Duke of York.
They will certainly be able to enlighten you, if "enlighten" is the right word.

This used to be a lovely old pub and it is a great shame that Grays and Sons the owners and the manager they appointed have let it slip so badly.

Would you TRY to wait until people post before slagging them off? Just for once?
It just looks idiotic. And arrogant.

Kim, still havent mellowed in your old age then.
There is fighting in all walks of life, look at the Albanian culture and the polish, they fight between themselves all the time, the caste system in India, they slice each other to pieces. So go away and come back when you can stop the same old same old rubbish eh?
"[italic][bold]They[/bold][/italic] don't go in the Shepherd and Dog in Crays Hill and that is because it was made clear that [bold]bold[/bold] [italic]italic[/italic] they were not welcome.
Who the hell do you think you are woman? THEY dont go into the pub... How dare you refer to a certain section of the community as they? Travellers Kim, not subhuman lowers sections of our society, they, like us as white british or whatever rubbish the goverment has decided to label us with, travellers have us much right to be spoken about with dignity and manners as everyone else.
If you put they and was refering to the African community there would be uproar, dont you dare get on your high horse here and start being rude about other human beings.
Oh and like the other person said, for once in your life wait for a response, it does make you look stupidm, arrogant and also slightly manic!

I am not justifying the behaviour of these men, I am extremely cross and the way the article was written and at Ms Gandys response.
People fight every night in Southend and many other places, not all get the amount of write up's that this particular group of people do.
