THIS mischievous mog-gy had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck behind a cupboard.

Worried owner Jeanette Rose, 37, from Westcliff, feared her pet Millie's life might be in danger, so she rang 999 about 6.30pm on Wednesday night.

Help soon arrived in the shape of Leigh firefighters who got to work with hammers and screwdrivers to free the cat.

Jeanette, of Silversea Drive, said: "She's generally well-behaved, but tends to get a bit happy at dusk.

"She raced in from the garden, decided to climb underneath the boiler and ended up stuck between the cupboard and the wall.

"She was hanging there by her neck and making the most horrible noise. I thought she was strangling herself, so I panicked and called the fire brigade.

"Five rather gorgeous firefighters turned up and, after about 10 minutes, sorted her out. So it was a happy ending."

Millie ended up in the relieved arms of Jeanette and her 10-year-old son, George, who goes to Darlinghurst Primary School in Leigh.

Leigh sub officer Dan Trendell added: "The cat had climbed up behind the boiler and got itself trapped. Using tools, we took some kitchen cabinets down and let it out."
