Lack of activity concerns Jamal
Exclusive By Chris Phillips
Concerned - Jamal Campbell-Ryce
Concerned - Jamal Campbell-Ryce

SOUTHEND United winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce is becoming anxious of ahead of the new season.

The 24-year-old midfielder has seen the Shrimpers make just one signing since the end of the previous campaign.

And he has also yet to hear anything about a new contract - despite his current deal expiring in less than 12 months time.

"I haven't been able to talk to anyone at the club," said the Jamaican international.

"I want to stay but I am becoming very concerned at the lack of activity."

Campbell-Ryce joined Blues from Rotherham United, initially on loan, in September 2005.

The move was eventually made permanent the following summer after a Football League hearing.

He then impressed during the second half of last season and is now being tracked by both Leicester and Coventry City.

But he is not looking to leave the Seasiders.

"I have heard the rumours but I leave all that side of things to my agent and the club," he said.

"I want to stay at Southend though because I love the supporters."

JCR is an top player. His final ball aside I think he is a superb little player and one we would struggle to replace.

Lets get him signed up now Tilly.

Can understand wanting to sort a new contract out but lack of transfers ??

Its still June and most players are on holiday.

No, I agree with him. Yes it's June, and yes it takes a while to complete the process of signing players, but the lack of activity concerns me, especially after hearing things like the club's in talks with Tommy Black - what's happened on that front since then? Or when Brushy said the Chairman had made 4 substantial bids for players - what's happened since then? Either the club are being tight, or they are showing a lack of ambition. Look at Gillingham, who signed 3 players in one day yesterday! We should have heard a lot more than we have done by now.

James I agree. Every day I come here and the clubs site and nothing new to report. We must of made a mint last season, so why not any new signings. Players are restless and concerned with us over the lack of activity and communication. I suppose one issue is if Eastwood is sold the kitty is so much more bigger, so come on Wolves, Derby, Charlton or whoever and give us the cash. The fact is we won't start the season with him. JCR has so much to offer, but needs to improve his delivery. So Tilly unlike your delayed substitutions get a more on and sort things out.

The transfer window will have closed before we sign anyone. Makes you wonder if we learned anything during the last summer and jan transfer windows.

We need to keep these players and sign quality if we are going to figure in the top part of Div1 next season.

Eastwood will be sold in the summer so stop kidding us all and sell him. Hes done wonders for the club but time to move on for both club and player. He will only go on a free next summer and we will have lost a lorry load of cash!

Dave of London Bridge made me roll up.His comment on JCR of his "final ball aside" well isn't Jcr there for that reason to deliver a final ball.In all honestly its like playing with ten men when JCR is in the team because he adds nothing to it so the sooner they cash in on him the better.
