Rotarian Bill Dudbridge hands the cheque to church treasurer Linda Powell

CANVEY Baptist Church is £400 better off, thanks to Canvey Rotarians.

Rotary Club president Bill Dudbridge presented the money to church treasurer Linda Powell, to help run beginners' computer courses for local residents at the church.

Mrs Powell explained: "A number of people said they would like to learn about the use of computers, but for one reason or another, did not feel confident enough to go to a college.

"We now have more than 20 people of various ages, but most are what they call silver surfers'. The courses started to run from 10am until noon, but proved so successful, some members now bring sandwiches and it continues until 3pm.

"On behalf of our church, I would like to thank Canvey Rotarians for this kind gesture."
