Travellers in call for more legal pitches
TRAVELLERS have called for more caravan pitches to be built in Basildon.
Regional planners recommend the district develops 81 new plots for people currently on illegal sites. However, travellers from Dale Farm, Crays Hill, claimed 101 are needed.
Campaigner Grattan Puxon said: "The result of the latest official caravan count by Basildon Council showed there were 132 unauthorised caravans."
Locals fear the travellers' representation will be given more weight than their own, after learning travellers held a meeting with the Government Office of the East of England, which was not open to settled residents.
David McPherson-Davis, Ramsden Crays Parish Council, is working on his own submission to the consultation.
He said: "I am concerned an unelected body imposed by Government appears to me to take onboard whatever the Gipsy Council requests and adopts it. They do not seem prepared to communicate with local communities as these private meetings show."

Judging by the quote above there are two hopes for the settled community: no hope and Bob Hope.
Never have the phrases "don't hold your breath" and "foregone conclusion" been more apt.

It's not clear if Basildon Council attended.

Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to state that I feel that travellers at Dale Farm have enraged locals by flouting laws that the rest of us have to abide by and for the sake of peace within all communities it would be better if they went else where and applied to legally live some where wait for said permission and then move in if granted. They have made our laws a laughing stock and although that miserable situation is escalated by poor government control and long drawn out legal processes these people took liberties no law abiding person would.
I do hope that if they get retrospective permission marches etc are planned to shows the travellers and Government how we law abiding residents feel and I will be there. I understand that lots of these families have homes that they could live in and I feel that under such circumstances this is where they should be made to reside, unless they want to rent a home in the same way law abiding citizens do. I also feel that anyone that owns property and lets it out, or has assets aught to be exempt from benefits as they are clearly getting an income from that and contribute nil to the economy they are currently taking from.
If there is any justice the decision coming our way will sort out those that take and that take liberties and reward those innocent residents that have had their lives wrecked. Not a proud declaration being a Traveller is it?

With all their anti-social behaviour, why no asbos?
Surely, at the end of all this nonsense, the law must be upheld.
Why do the Quangos and other supporters feel that these shisters have any rights at all?
It's one big P*ss take, and we are all in the middle of it.
Again, who will rid us of these tiresome, scrounging and anti-social itinerants.
