A LEIGH school has started a minibus service to collect and return its pupils from their homes.

Saint Pierre School, in Leigh Road, developed the idea after it was first raised by one of its school council members.

Headmaster Chris Perkins said: "Rising fuel prices, traffic nightmares and pollution levels being at all time high helped us make the decision to start the service.

"Now we will be delivering children living in Leigh, Westcliff and Southend and even further afield to places like Benfleet, Canvey and Basildon."

He also confirmed the school is thinking about buying more minibuses to cover the school's growing catchment area.
