UPDATED - Light aircraft crashes at Southend Airport
AN aircraft has crash-landed at Southend Airport.
The aircraft had four people on board when it came down at 11.09am.
Fire crews and ambulance crews were called after the small Piper PA-32 Saratoga was diverted to make an emergency landing.
Airport emergency services initially dealt with the incident, with Essex Fire and Rescue Service acting as back-up.
Fire crews helped free one passenger.
All four people escaped uninjured.

Just for correctness this was actually a Piper PA.32 Saratoga and not as stated in your text above as a P8-32. Runway blocked for about an hour before it was towed off the runway by a tractor.

They will ignore the fact that the aircraft was diverting into Southend and not operating out of the airport.

More fool them!

I saw a hive of activity on the runway as I went past just after 12, but couldn't make out what was actually going on.

The aircraft was actually a Piper PA32R Cherokee Lance which was the predecessor to the Saratoga. It landed gear up and no-one was hurt.

Who really cares what type it was. A plane crashed on the runway at Southend Airport, and that just about sums it up.
